What is taught in
classes?
Class
material will be suited for all levels, focusing on the basics of
contact improvisation. Topics
and skills that might be explored include rolling, spiraling, giving
and supporting weight, sloughing, catching, falling, and flying. There could also be bodywork and dance improvisation topics such as alignment, imagery, composition,
states, and scores.

What is
a
contact jam like?
A
jam is a physical practice where Contactors will dance in solos, duets,
or trios, with or without music, all on the dance floor at the same
time, or with some watching from the side. Some use the
opportunity
to practice their skills, whereas others just want to have
fun dancing.
It
is always a good idea to have taken at least a class in contact
improvisation before going for a jam. If you aren't sufficiently
warmed-up before the jam, it would be a good idea to do your own self
warm-ups and
stretches.
Once you are ready to dance, feel free to do your own solo dance, or
you can try asking someone for a dance. More often than not, solos
merge into duets in mid-dance.

What
do I wear?
Wear clothes
that allow for free
range of movement and which you feel comfortable moving in. T-shirts
and sweatpants are an excellent idea. It would be a good idea to remove
any loose
items such as watches,
bracelets, jewelry, etc. before
dancing. All dancing
takes place barefoot.
